Description

When I decided to purchase my Newtonian, part of my reasoning was to have a telescope that had relatively strong light gathering capability so that I could shoot fainter objects than I was previously able to do with my refractors.

The objects I most enjoy shooting are broadband targets especially reflection and dark nebulae but shooting from the city makes these objects a challenge, and even with deep integrations they never turn out with the quality that I really aim for. Narrowband is usually an “easier” option for me as I can cut out a good amount of the light pollution.

As I began this project I was encouraged by my first 600s Oiii frame. The shell of Abell 6 was faintly visible and there was definitely stronger signal where I knew HFG-1 to be. I decided to go very deep on the project and ended up capturing over 100 hours of Ha and Oiii data, and then added an extra night of RGB which I used for my stars. These objects are extremely dim and I think for my conditions this is the best I can do. I’ve edited the data multiple times now and have decided to call an end to this project which ironically I was able to complete on the last day of 2023.
